Prius Prompts Toyota Sales Goal Increase

Nothing gives us more confidence in this year's sales success than seeing our favorite automaker up its company-wide sales goal. Increasing its original predictions by 100,000-units, Toyota now says it will sell 8.58-million vehicles by then end of 2012. What prompted the increased forecast? None other than the game-changing Toyota Prius and its popular family of hybrids.

Thanks to one part government incentives and one part extraordinary automotive innovation, the Prius has already seen a huge demand in markets like Japan. Specifically, the Japanese government has set in place tax cuts and rebates to push consumers towards hybrid driving. Not that they need much convincing. The Japan-based Toyota Prius Aqua, known as the Prius c in the U.S., offers drivers the perfect combination of style and fuel economy for urban driving and city life.

Though Japanese government incentives will certainly help bolster Toyota sales within the country, the automaker is expecting to see success across the globe as well. For example, the United States consists of one of the largest Toyota-loving markets worldwide. In 2012, company officials expect U.S.-based Toyota Prius sales to rise more than 60-percent. In total, Toyota estimates it will pump 1.63-million vehicles into its home market and send and sell 6.95 million overseas.
